Heres how it is. Captain
August got sent to a spaceship by THEM.
And not just a spaceship, HIS
spaceship. But his bliss was not to
last very long. You see, the shuttle
brought him to the lowest of the
lowest bottom tip of the ship, while
the bridge was an odd thousand decks
higher. Now, aided and hindered by his
offbeat crew, August has begun his exodus
to the fabled bridge. Whether hell
succeed or no, only time can tell. That,
and a big fat mug of prophecy-inducing
Space-Grog(TM). These are
the adventures of...
CAPTAIN
AUGUST.

Captain
August is the hero of this story. Energetic,
enthusiastic, stout and foolish; these are things
he is. Strong, able-bodied, sharp and careful;
these he isn't. He will jump headlong into any
situation, allow himself to be lead from scene
to scene by others but take the reigns in hand
when you least expect it. I wouldn't exactly
call him mysterious or enigmatic, but at least
he's got zest.
Which counts for something, you know. In some
parts of the universe. |

Nuch
is captain August's number one; an alien with
head-tendrils, four arms and four pupils. His
enthusiasm for life on the ship is close to
zero and his affection for the captain seemingly
non-existent. And yet, he remains ever beside
his superior, for whatever silent reasons he
has. Maybe he feels it's his destiny. Maybe
he's sworn to the job. Maybe because there's
little else to do. |

The
story of Janosh is a tragic one. Once he was
the most beautiful and dear little boy you had
ever seen, but then a freak accident involving
rickety walkways and tanks full of liquid hot,
churning butter turned him into... this. A repugnant
freak with a dripping head and a few loose screws.
He cherishes his beloved Luger gun and lives
to destroy August, whom he blames for the whole
ordeal. Basically the recurring antagonist of
the tale, he'll pop up every now and then to
destroy an entire deck or something. And maybe
bring a giant robot to smash everyone silly. |

The
Beatnik is also a tragic figure. Hailing from
a land next to the Clown Kingdom (which is also
on the ship, just go with me on this), he saw
his entire people taken away by the ungodly
pierrots and put into their stew. Taking it
upon himself to bring down the fascist clown
regime, he found an entity called the Lovecraftian
Horror beneath a waste disposal pipe and used
it to destroy the clowns' source of power. When
August arrived on the scene and set events in
motion that wiped away the vile empire, the
Beatnik was left alive and took it upon himself
to stalk the captain throughout his ship, for
reason unbeknownst to the readers. |

Rumquist
leads a rivalling troupe of pirates and means
to take over the ship from August's command.
He is ambitious and serious, and more of a captain's
captain than August will ever be. He seems to
be an angry man but leads his crew with an iron
hand. Who will reach the bridge first; our own
little man or this experienced master buccaneer?
Place thine bets! |

Alexander
Nox is a weird pirate. Peering eerily at you
with his one naked eye, he appears to be a pirate
unshaven and, yes, even uncouth. But he has
many depths to probe, probably even more than
any of the cast. Or any of us!
Well, speak for yourselves of course. Any of
you, then. |

Pal
Ribbons is a folk hero venturing on a magnificent
journey told through a pirate song. August enjoys
singing it now and then, letting his shrill
voice boast the many adventures of this unlikely
corsair.
He appears to once have set camp with gibbons. |

There
seems to be no beginning capturing The Cephalopod
in proze. I will not try this, then, as any
attempt seems destined to either sizzle out
in shameful silence or blow up in your face
and take the entire universe with it.
I just can't bear that responsibility. |

No
family alive has ever been so vile as the Darwin
family! They are loathed and feared throughout
the universe. Political and morally corrupt
in setup, they constantly vie for control over
everything. Above all, they desire power.
One of them seems to be on the ship itself.
Victor Darwin, who acts as warden over the Bastille
prison, in which August was imprisoned one day.
More Darwin machinations, obviously. |

Clowns
are a Year One excess. They managed to pop up
everywhere, in every corner and orifice of the
ship. August systematically had to deal with
them on many occasions, whether it was miniature
clowns in their own kingdom or giant clowns
guarding the ship's Schwardschild engines.
Though Year Two appears to be less clown-heavy,
it remains every unsure whether or not we've
seen the last of these persistant creatures. |

Born
on the twelfth of August,
1983 (Leo, fire, the sun), under the name
Roderick Leermakers, I appear to like drawing
comics. I consider myself more of
a writer than a drawer, but delusions are
not alien to me in life. Read the webcomic
and judge for yourself; everyone and their grandmother
could do a better job.
And yet, the job is mine, for better or worse.
Though I plan on spreading my comics as far
as I can, I have no illusions of ever making
a living out of it. Rather, I'm betting on
finding a chance coffer of Silverlings
on my doorstep one day and continue making
comics as a hobby. I do so independantly at
the moment, but also draw small stories for
a Dutch collective called Goldfish
Factory. Though they are theoretically a doujinshi-circle
and thus concerned with amateur manga only,
this has not stopped me from just doing my
own thing. And until they discover that and
kick me out, I'll just carry
on merrily.
A few of my comic books have been printed
in small proportions and can be purchased
in various online shops. If you like dark
stories with subversive horror, you may find
Blighted Sun or No
Windows to your liking. The first
was published by Goldfish Factory and can
be ordered from their
website.
I'm currently working on a large horror comic
called Quelle Horreur.
It'll be around sixty pages and will hopefully
kick ass. I'm also working on an adventuregame
for German game-publisher Bad Brain.
Again, hopeful it will succeed in the asskicking
department. Keep reading the rants
underneath the comic for updates on all exciting
projects (as opposed to my deucedly uninteresting
projects, which get muffled under
the carpet). And I'll keep on rolling,
like a Decepticon on diesel.
See if I don't!
